Suggested activities for partners not attending the conference sessions.

If you are a keen golfer, the McCracken Golf Course at Victor Harbour is at your doorstep. It is a Par 72 course with lots of bunkers and about 14 lakes, a good-looking golf course. Bookings taken by the pro-shop.

This weekend also sees the Wooden Boat Festival happening at the Goolwa Wharf. There will be lots of activities associated with this festival including Paddle Steam Boat rides, boat building, not to mention hundreds of wooden boats.

Our contact at the Goolwa Wharf is Liz, and she is happy to help make your visit enjoyable.

Markets are happening at both the Wharf and Victor Harbour.

If you feel like doing a bit of shopping, then head to Port Elliot.

Last but not least, we are in wine country. There are a number of very good wineries in the Strathalbyn and Langhorne areas.

Our members, Peter and Junie, have good contacts at Angas Plains Estate, and I know there will be a group heading there. See the menu below.

So whilst I have not organised any specific tour, there are options to consider.

Please consider what might interest those not attending the conference sessions, and whether you would like to share your plans with others to combine travel options.

  1. WOW!! I certainly wish Judy and I could be there. Sounds like a fantastic gathering of Lancairs/Lancair owners.

You probably know that the “original” Lancair company is now owned by a father/son team, Mark and Conrad Huffstutler, while the Evolution Corporation is now focused exclusively on the Evolution model. Jeff Edwards and I held a very informative and productive conference call with Conrad, and Claudette Colwell, another LOBO Council member, flew to Uvalde, TX to meet with them. The report from all who have/are working with the new owners is that they are doing their best to return the company “to its roots,” and have brought Lance Niebauer into the fold to help them do so. They expect to provide any/all parts for the Lancair models, to return at least two models to production, and to introduce a new kit in the next couple of years. They assured me and Jeff that they were in this for the long haul; that they’d invested a lot of money in establishing an in-house manufacturing capability and in restoring production contracts with outside vendors for most components. All good news as we see it!

Hope we’re not being overly optimistic, but LOBO US has offered to support the new company in any way possible. We also intend to keep our many EVO owners as LOBO members, although the Evolution Corp is sponsoring “competing” fly-ins and similar events. My personal view is that there are not enough EVOs to support/sustain a type club of this model only…we shall see how this goes over time.

We wish you the very best at Goolwa!
